1. Platform Scope & Guidelines

FoodBridge provides a logistics coordination dashboard matching surplus food donors (restaurants, caterers, grocers) with community recipients (registered non-profits and food recovery groups).

All users must maintain active accounts and provide accurate contact and address details. Inaccurate profiles or fraudulent listings are grounds for immediate suspension from the network.

2. Good Samaritan Liability Exemptions

To encourage donation safety and promote waste reduction, FoodBridge operates under the protection of Good Samaritan food donation laws:

"Food donors who redistribute apparently wholesome food in good faith to non-profit organizations for ultimate distribution to individuals in need are generally exempt from civil and criminal liability arising from the condition of the food."

NGOs agree to review the wholesale quality of all claimed surplus items at the time of physical collection and assume handling responsibility thereafter.

3. Pickup Coordination & Expiry Rules

Timely coordination is essential to prevent food spoilage and optimize logistics.

• Donors: Must define clear expiry windows and list any allergen details or specific container instructions on postings.
• Claiming NGOs: Commit to collecting claimed listings within the specified expiry window. If a pickup cannot be completed, the NGO must release the claim promptly so another driver can act.

4. Secure Handshake Verification

To verify handoffs, a secure 4-digit code is automatically generated for every claimed listing. Donors must ask for and verify this code at the time of handoff. Verified handshakes represent our source of truth for platform metrics and community impact awards.
